The league table of energy use enables householders taking part in Electric Footprint to compare their household electricity use with their neighbours.
The carbon league table is calculated on how much electricity each household uses divided by the number of occupants. A household that uses a lot of electricity but has a large number of occupants may have a smaller carbon footprint than a household that uses less electricity but has only one occupant.
The league table gives an approximation of how much the electricity costs, this is based on a kwh costing 11 pence. Electricity pricing in England is a complicated calculation that changes after the household has consumed a pre-determined amount of electricity, which varies from company to company. Eleven pence a kilowatt hour is the closest.
